Frequently asked questions
If your question isn't here, email us and a real person will answer.
What is Grimoire?
A Commander (EDH) deck builder. Pick a commander, and Grimoire assembles a complete, rules-legal 100-card deck with a written strategy — either from the cards you own or from the full Commander-legal card pool.
Do I need to pay to use it?
No. A free account lets you search cards, browse decks, import and manage your collection, view any shared deck, and generate one new deck every month at no cost. A paid plan is only needed if you want to build more decks than that.
What counts as a "build"?
One generated deck. Each plan includes a set number of builds per month. Saving, editing, viewing, and sharing decks you've already made never uses a build.
Is the AI different on higher plans?
No. Every plan — including the cheapest — uses the same top-tier AI model. Plans differ only in how many builds you get per month. You're never paying for better results, just for more of them.
Are the decks actually legal?
Singleton, color identity, and the Commander ban list are checked in code on every build, not left to the AI. That said, legality information comes from third-party data and is provided for convenience — for sanctioned events, confirm your list with a judge.
Are the card prices accurate?
They're estimates pulled from public pricing data and can lag behind the real market. Always check the retailer's page for the current price before buying.
How do I share a deck?
Open the deck in your library and tap Share deck. That publishes it to a public link anyone can open without an account. Tap Make private to take it down again.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from your account page and you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. See our refund and cancellation policy.
Where does the card data come from?
Card data and images come from Scryfall; commander and synergy statistics come from EDHREC. Full details on our data sources page.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes — email support@grimoiredecks.com and we'll delete your account and everything associated with it.
Can I use a Grimoire deck to enter a deck-building contest?
No — we don't condone that. Deck-building contests, whether run by a local game store or held online, are meant to test your own deck-building skill. Using Grimoire to build or optimize a list for one goes against the spirit of the contest and is against our terms of service. Grimoire is built for putting a deck together to actually play, not for competitions that judge the building itself.
Is Grimoire official?
No. Grimoire is unofficial fan content and is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, Scryfall, or EDHREC.
