Strategy
Grub, Storied Matriarch // Grub, Notorious Auntie is a Rakdos Goblin tribal deck built around blight (putting -1/-1 counters on your own creatures) and graveyard recursion. The Matriarch side rebuys Goblins from your graveyard whenever it enters or transforms, while the Notorious Auntie side copies blighted creatures as tapped, attacking tokens for explosive combat turns. You transform between the two by paying {R} or {B} in your first main phase, letting you loop recursion and combat aggression while grinding your opponents down.
Early: Prioritize ramp and card flow. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Commander's Sphere, Thran Dynamo, and Gilded Lotus accelerate you toward casting Grub. Bitterblossom and Boggart Mischief begin building a token board, and Boggart Mischief can blight 1 on entry to make two 1/1 Goblins. Deploy Solemn Simulacrum, Changeling Wayfinder, and Dori, Bearer of Friends for early ramp and bodies. Cheap removal like Infernal Grasp, Terminate, Doom Blade, and Nameless Inversion keeps aggressive opponents in check.
Mid: Land Grub and start the transform engine, paying {R} to become the Matriarch to return a Goblin like Stony-Voiced Goblins or Bolg of the North from your graveyard, then paying {B} on a later turn to become the Notorious Auntie for combat. When the Auntie attacks, blight 1 to copy a blighted creature as a tapped, attacking token that sacrifices at end of turn—copy something with a strong attack trigger like Grave Titan or Misty Mountains Raider. Amass effects from Goblin-town Flunkies, Great Ugly-Looking Goblin, Misty Mountains Raider, and Down, Down to Goblin-town grow an Army. Great Ugly-Looking Goblin grants menace to your countered creatures. Card advantage from Night's Whisper, Painful Truths, and Risky Research refuels you.
Late: Leverage recursion to grind out longer games. Graveshifter, Infernal Rebirth, Grave Venerations, and Aberrant Return return dead threats, while Puppeteer Clique and Aberrant Return steal or reanimate creatures from any graveyard. Madame Hydra, Reanimated grows large from a full graveyard and mills more on attack. Board wipes like Villainous Wrath, Chain Reaction, Black Sun's Zenith, and Fire Covenant reset the board when you fall behind, and Archfiend of Ifnir punishes opponents' boards every time you cycle or discard.
Win conditions: Win through repeated combat damage. The Notorious Auntie's copy ability lets you double up on power on attacks, especially with Grave Titan making extra Zombies and Misty Mountains Raider amassing Goblins. Helm of the Host copies your commander at combat, and Whispersilk Cloak or Sword of the Animist makes an attacker unblockable and value-generating. Menace across the deck, plus Great Ugly-Looking Goblin granting menace, makes your swarm hard to block. Villainous Wrath can also drain an opponent's life based on their creature count.
- Grave Titan - Prime copy target for the Auntie side, making Zombies on enter and attack
- Boggart Mischief - Blight enabler that produces Goblin tokens on entry
- Madame Hydra, Reanimated - Menacing evasive threat that scales with your graveyard and mills on attack
- Helm of the Host - Creates non-legendary copies of Grub each combat for extra value and attacks
- Villainous Wrath - Board wipe that also drains an opponent's life
- Aberrant Return - Reanimates up to three creatures from graveyards to rebuild
- Great Ugly-Looking Goblin // Clap! Snap! - Grants menace to your counter-bearing creatures and amasses Goblins
